Easily accessible from the ‘strategic road’ (the RD 90) as it's known here, the path takes you to a dry grassland typical of the Laonnois region and managed by the Conservatoire des Espaces Naturels des Hauts-de-France (a natural environment renowned for its exceptional richness!). The narrow path soon winds its way down to the valley: take a look along the way and you'll see a host of small round fossils - nummulites - reminding us that the sea stretched out here over 60 million years ago... From here, you can return to the plateau towards La Rose Fontaine and its limestone walls, which are clearly visible from the roadside. Once you reach the top, simply follow the road eastwards to get back to your starting point...
This site has been classified as a Natura 2000 site, and includes many plant species protected by law (such as the bird's-foot ptarmigan and the Saint-Michel daisy). Maus also has a remarkable fauna, as demonstrated by the presence of the Petit and Grand Rhinolophe (bat species) in the local quarries. Thank you for looking after them!
