PR 20 : Le bois de Janiac

Two viewpoints offer panoramic views. Discover the plateau on the PR trail: La table basaltique de Chastel.A veritable citadel of lava! From a geological point of view, its origin is uncertain: it is either an ancient lake of hardened lava (a paléolac), a mound detached by erosion from the neighbouring planèze or an ancient lava flow. Naturally defended by high basalt cliffs, this plateau has always attracted man. Archaeological discoveries testify to a Celtic presence, then to a Gallic oppidum that became a Roman stronghold.

9 routes for free climbing, scale of difficulty from beginner to 6a. Access: from the village of Le Monteil, head for the Auteroche climbing site, cross Auteroche towards Sauvat, then take the 1st path on the right.Sumène Artense community, via its socio-sportive mediator, has helped young people from Ydes College to restore this climbing site.

You'll have to follow this trail to discover Chastel's secret. A dozen kilometers of walking, a dozen stops, your senses on the alert for the slightest clue.You'll discover what your eyes have been hiding, and set off on a 350-million-year journey into the Earth's memories.
