From Nueil-Les-Aubiers to Mauléon, the Vélidéale follows a typical bocage route: lined with trees and fields surrounded by hedgerows. Once you arrive in Saint-Aubin-de-Baubigné, where you will find shops and a picnic area, you can easily take a detour to explore the ruins of the Château de La Durbelière, the historic residence of Henri de la Rochejaquelein, with its moat and dovecote. Mauléon then invites you to take a break and explore this ‘Petite Cité de caractère’ (Small Town of Character) and its L’Abbaye museum – unless you feel like cycling a few more kilometres to head towards the La Corbelière de Moulins, a Sensitive Natural Area (ENS) and discover the rural landscapes of this unspoilt site.
