A former holiday resort almost a century ago, the Domaine de la Solitude (located in the lower town of Laon, near the Ardon district) is now a natural highlight of the city, co-managed with the Conservatoire des Espaces Naturels des Hauts-de-France. Take a stroll along its banks, sit back and close your eyes... and enjoy the serenity of the place - it's truly enchanting!
The area was once exploited for its peat, and is fed by the springs of the river Ardon. It's a rather damp place, so bring good shoes or boots depending on the season. And in spring and summer, insect and mosquito repellent will be very welcome!
