Sainte-Élidie chapel

Description

Élidie, a local shepherdess, was mortally wounded by the steward of the Seigneur de Poulargues, near the "Roumée" fountain. The chapel was built at its foot. If you have a pure soul, you'll be able to see three drops of blood in the fountain.

Reception complements

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

1/ From the church, turn right on the D999. 20 m further on, turn right as far as La Ferreyre. Cross the hamlet and continue along the road. 350 m further on, take the track on the right. At the road, continue straight ahead, through the hamlet of Issac. At the farm, continue on the track opposite. At the road, turn right and 80 m further on, follow the road to the right (view of the hamlet of Clavelier and the ruined tower). Cross the D105 and enter Clavelier.

2/ At the cross (A-R ruined tower: 15 min.), turn left onto the road. At the fork, continue straight ahead. Turn right on the D105 and immediately left through the hamlet of La Grange (view of Saint-Sauveur-la-Sagne). At the crossroads, go down towards the D105; follow it in the direction of the village. Take the lane on the left, skirting the church, and follow the path upwards (view of Saint-Sauveur-la-Sagne church and Dore gorges).

3/ Take the road to the right, skirt the cemetery and follow the path overhanging the gorges (A-R site du Sapin, in the gorges on the right). Keep to the main track. At the crossroads, continue to climb to the right as far as Poulargues (view of the Clavelier tower and the Forez mountains). At the crossroads (var. possible left towards Clavelier), follow the road to the right. 1 km further on, at the crossroads, continue straight ahead and immediately take the right-hand path. At the crossroads, turn left towards the Sainte-Elidie chapel.

4/ Cross the stream, take the left-hand path upwards and pass under the railroad line. At the D38, take the track opposite to Germalanges. Cross the hamlet and continue to the D999. Turn left and, 200 m further on, take the track on the right. At the road, go straight ahead. Follow this road to Lapeyrie.

5/ Leave the first track on the left and, at a right-hand bend, take the second track on the left. Keep to the main path. At Montel, continue straight ahead (view of the village of Saint-Alyre-d'Arlanc). At the tarmac, go straight on. Cross the railroad line and turn right onto the track. Cross the stream and continue straight on towards the village. Turn right onto the D999 and immediately left to reach the church.
