Les Plantades

Description

We climb up to a small plateau where we enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Sancy massif and the Dordogne valley. The Romanesque church at Avèze, with its Baroque altarpiece and polychrome wooden statues, is well worth a visit.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

1/ From the start sign near the town hall on the D987, follow the road towards Tauves until you reach the cemetery.

2/ Take the 1st track on the right. Continue into the forest, ignoring the side paths, then descend (very steep slope) to the footbridge. Cross the bridge and climb up into the undergrowth. At the intersection with a meadow, turn right. At the fork, veer slightly left to reach Plantades. Cross the road and continue straight ahead on a wide track. At the intersection with the D611, take the road to the left (with a view of the Beautourné cirque) as far as Ardot. At the crossroads, turn right up the road towards "Chez Prés". At the intersection, take the left-hand path (view of the Dordogne valley and the Sancy) and continue, ignoring the right-hand paths, to Cheminade (another yellow PR).

3/ Cross the hamlet. After a bend to the left, continue as far as a hangar (panoramic view) and take the track to the left. At the crossroads, turn left onto the road, then immediately right onto the path in front of the cross (view of the Banne d'Ordanche and the Sancy massif). At the crossroads, go straight on to the village of Flessanges, cross it and, at the bottom of the hamlet, take the track on the right (watering place). Cross the road, go straight ahead on the path leading down to the stream and back up to the road. Cross the road and follow the grassy path opposite. At the road, turn left, then right at the crossroads (D987) to reach Avèze and the starting point (Romanesque church).
