Medieval Montaigut
Description
From Montaigut, a village dating back to the Middle Ages (church, tower, apothecary's house, etc.), you reach the ruins of a castle from which you can enjoy a panoramic view. The walk continues through the hedged farmland around the Montmazot pond.

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.
Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
Start: From the start sign in Place de la Mairie, turn right into Grande Rue, then left into Rue du Pont, which leads to Place de l'Église (Romanesque church, medieval houses). Opposite the church, take rue du Palais, then successively: right, rue Pradons, right, rue des Rocailles, left, rue du Château to reach the orientation table (viewpoint over Montaigut and its belfry, the Sancy massif, the Puys chain, the Forez mountains). Go around the mound, downhill to the right to join Rue Le Boulval and then the RD 2144, then immediately right again and follow the Chemin de Ronde overhang. At "Porte Montmarault" (tower), turn left. At the fork, take the left-hand path, join a small road and continue straight on to the hamlet of Petites Ternes.
1 - Cross the hamlet, take the track opposite towards Cote Bidon. Turn right at the first houses in the hamlet. At the next 2 T junctions, turn left and take the track which becomes a small road. At the entrance to the hamlet of Montingeat, turn right until you reach an intersection at the entrance to the forest.
2 - Take the left-hand track. At the T junction, turn left. At the next junction, turn left onto the RD 2144. Cross the road, follow it on the left for 100 m and take the path on the right. At the intersection with a small road, continue straight ahead. Cross the Maison Rouge farm and join the D502. Go straight on. Rejoin the D503, and turn left as far as the Etang de La Prade (viewpoint
of Montaigut).
3 - Turn right onto the pond dike. Continue left along the path beside the pond (picnic tables). Cross a footbridge and continue to the first path on the right, just before the buildings. Follow it to a road. Follow it to the right for 100 m. Turn right towards
towards the town center. The path runs alongside a sports field, under a road bridge and through a conservatory orchard. At the road, turn left. At the crossroads, continue uphill to the right, then turn left into Rue du 8 Mai. At the traffic lights on the RD 2144, turn right to return to the starting point.
