For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.
1/ Head for the church, down the steps to the left (Romanesque church porch). Walk around the church, past the large house with the 6 "chiens-assis", go straight ahead and down the path to the bottom of the valley. Turn left at the crossroads and left again at the next junction. At the road go right and after the campsite turn left, cross the D 922, climb the track opposite, ignoring the grassy path on the left. At the road, turn left (view of Saint-Sauves and the granite mound of Châteauneuf), follow signs for Chibet and turn left at the fork until you reach a T-junction.
2/ Turn right onto the track leading up into the woods; go down to the first track on the left. Follow the forest track. The path climbs up the Dordogne. Cross a footbridge and follow the left bank of the Dordogne. At the road, take the path opposite and continue along the Dordogne (lookout point over the dam). Continue left along the wide track; at the road, turn left and then right towards "la lauzeraie". Follow the Chemin de la Suchère and then the Avenue du Général Mangin into La Bourboule. At the stop sign, turn left onto avenue Agis Ledru, then rue du Professeur Cuvelier to boulevard Georges Clemenceau.
3/ Cross the boulevard, head for the one-way sign on rue Sedaiges; climb the steps; at the T-junction, turn left towards Murat-le-Quaire (2.3 km). At the platform (view of La Bourboule), take the uphill path to the right, pass over the La Roche des Fées hill (view of Quaire and the mountains), and descend towards Quaire and Murat-le-Quaire. At the road, cross the railroad line and take the Chemin de Vergne Noire, entering the undergrowth. At the road, go straight ahead and continue towards Murat-le-Quaire up the log steps (view of La Bourboule and the Sancy massif). Enter Murat-le-Quaire as far as the church.
4/ Turn right onto route de La Banne. Leave Murat-le-Quaire (off the right: panorama towards the cross), fork right onto chemin des Couderts, cross the road and turn left onto chemin des Clos. Ignore the first track on the right and, at the fork, turn right, continuing on the plateau (panorama) for 2 km to the stone cross in the village of Paillers.
5/ Go straight ahead, then turn left at the fork. At the stop sign, cross the road and go down the path. Cross the road, go under the railroad bridge, immediately turn right, then go through the tunnel under the road and continue straight on until Hors. At the intersection, turn left and take the first path on the right. Cross the road, go straight on towards "des Ludines" and rejoin the starting point.
