Description
Lac Chambon is the starting point for this magnificent hike, which takes in the basaltic mound of Murol, which serves as a promontory for the 14th-century citadel, and the rocky "dent du Marais", offering a relaxing panorama.

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.
Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
1/ Take the footbridge across the beach. At the end, turn left and continue to the intersection at the top of the hill.
2/ Go left towards the stele and take the first path on the right. After the reservoir, turn right, passing the "Le Tartaret" sign, and go right down the log steps of the path. At the bottom of the stairs, turn right (with a view of Murol castle) and follow the path to the road.
3/ Cross the road, go right for a few metres, take the stairs at the corner of the wall and continue towards the tourist office. Leave it on the right, go around the playground and down the stairs onto a shopping street. Turn left, then right in front of the post office, to return to the shopping street. Turn left, cross the bridge over the Couze river, follow the road to the right for 20 m, cross it and go up the rue de Levat, which runs alongside the Maison des Peintres museum. Follow "direction château". At the parking lot, turn left, then left again at the toilet building until you reach the road.
4/ Cross the road and turn left towards "Dent du Marais" as far as the panorama sign. Continue along the ridge until you come to a path on the left. Keep to the left along the ridgeline (views of the Angle and Sancy puys and the Chaudefour valley). Descend to the "Dent du Marais" sign, turn right towards "la Mouta" and descend to the village. Turn left, then follow signs for "Lac Chambon". At the next crossroads (Roche Blanche), go straight down to the road beside the lake. Cross the road and take the lakeside path (signposted "plage de Murol").
