Reception complements

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

1/ From the start sign at the bottom of the parking lot, cross the bridge to the gondola departure point, then turn left to pass under the bridge. Follow the river, keeping to the right in the park. Cross the footbridge and turn right. Follow the path behind the houses to an intersection.

2/ Turn left up a winding path through undergrowth. Go left around the bridge under the intermediate station of the old funicular railway. Continue up to the top of the hill below the cable-car station.

3/ Pass under the cables to cross the grassy area and join the path opposite (former funicular arrival station). At the intersection, take the path on the left, and once under the esplanade, turn right onto the wide rising path. At the fork, turn right down a wide driveway, leaving the paths on either side. At the road, continue straight on to the hamlet of Fohet.

4/ Turn left onto the road, then after 200 m turn right onto the first track. Then take a shaded path on the left. At the first houses, continue straight ahead on the road. At the crossroads, go straight ahead on Rue Beaumarchais until you reach the D129.

5/ Turn right, cross the Dordogne and go straight up. Continue along Avenue des Roches, then Chemin des Fées. At the platform (view of La Bourboule and the Sancy), climb left to Roche des Fées (view of Banne d'Ordanche, puy Gros, the Sancy and the Dordogne valley).

6/ Climb down from the rock and take the path on the left. Leave a track on the right and, at the next junction, turn right down to La Bourboule. Cross Place Guillaume Lacoste to the right and join Place Choussy (Thermes). Turn left into Passage Choussy and cross Boulevard Foch. Turn left, fork right after the fountain and cross the bridge over the Dordogne, continuing straight on to reach the starting point.
