Around Lake Aydat

Situé à 850m d'altitude, le lac d'Aydat est le plus grand lac naturel régional d'Auvergne avec une superficie de 65 hectares et une profondeur maximale de 15 m.Ce lac est un lac de barrage volcanique, né de la coulée de lave issue des deux puys jumeaux la Vache et Lassolas. Les eaux venant de la rivière de la Veyre, ont créé deux retenues naturelles de part et d'autre de ce barrage. Cette coulée, portant le nom de "Cheire" d'Aydat, date de plus de 8 500 ans ! Aujourd'hui, c'est un lac où plusieurs loisirs et activités nautiques peuvent se pratiquer, dont catamaran, dériveur, kayak, aviron, planche à voile, optimist, pêche, baignade... Un circuit balisé permet de faire le tour en toute tranquillité et permet de profiter du point de vue donnant sur la chaîne des puys.

The former Aydat wetland, naturally present until the 1960s-1970s, was revived in May 2012.This zone alone represents a rich and important environment for the lake's biodiversity. Its main role is to purify the waters of the Veyre thanks to the presence of suitable vegetation that limits phosphorus inputs into Lac d'Aydat. You can stroll through this area along a path of pontoons with footbridges and observatories overlooking the pond, where you can see many species of birds. Four permanent trails are available in the Aydat / Rouillas-Bas forest, near the lake. Come and put your sense of direction to the test, with the aim of finding the beacons hidden in the forest! Maps on sale at the Aydat Tourist Office.These four courses have been designed to appeal to a wide audience, from beginners to experts. So everyone can enjoy orienteering on their own, as a family (children aged 7 and over), in a group or with friends. Tour details: - Beginner course: for those new to orienteering, families with children aged 7 and over - Distance 1.2km - 7 markers to find. - Green course: recommended for people with a minimum knowledge of orienteering - All ages 7 and over - Distance 1.9km - 15 beacons to find. - Blue course: for orienteers - Distance 2.3km - 22 markers to find. - Yellow course: experienced public - Distance 2.5km - 22 markers to find. To take part in this activity, all you need is the map for the chosen route (depending on your level). Maps are on sale at our office in Aydat, during opening hours. Fun and sporting activities await you on 150 games spread over 15 courses. Take to the skies on over 1000 m of zip lines, including 200 m over Lac d'Aydat! 4 courses are reserved for the little ones (3-6 years). 11 courses of increasing difficulty for teens and adults. All our courses are on continuous lifelines, 100% safe. Allow between 2h30 and 4h30 to get the most out of our site. The entry ticket is individual and gives access to the whole park (restrictions according to size and ability). Accessible to children aged 3 and over.
