City tour in Kingersheim and Wittenheim

In the early 1970's, the Rapp company offered the town of Kingersheim a shed, which was dismantled and then reassembled by the municipal staff. It then became a festival hall worthy of the name, now dedicated to the reception of the local associations and to the great communal events, such as the Christmas party for the elderly, the citizens' day...

This neighborhood bears the name of the entrepreneur who built it from 1955. It is characterized by its semi-detached houses.

Center de Rencontre, d'Echange et d'Animation. The initial building was the Town Hall-School built in 1897. In 1956 the building was given to the Post Office, which operated it until the construction of the new post office next to the town hall. From the 1970's, the site is dedicated to the "loisirs du Jeudi". In 1992, the Créa took over after a nice rehabilitation. The century-old building with its classical lines is skilfully surmounted by a modern wave perfectly integrated into the urban landscape. This complex offers leisure and activities for adults and children. Its cultural season is very busy: Momix festival, live shows, concerts, animations, exhibitions, street theater...

In 2002, the town hall of Kingersheim considered the future of the Schurch farm, the only building that survived the 30-year war and was in danger of being demolished. It decided to establish the House of the Citizenship there: deconstruction of the farm and re-implantation in the same place. Today, this project is a real architectural success! The building is superb, the heritage has been preserved and Kingersheim keeps its "village" aspect.

Restored by the City of Kingersheim in 1995 to accommodate the current school of music, the farm that was called "Nussbaumer" announced, engraved on its door, the year "1664". But it seems that it would be older and could indeed date from the Alsatian Renaissance and have been destroyed during the Thirty Years War. Major modifications were made in the 18th century. In 1863, it is the Mulhousian Charles Mieg who is the owner. It was not until 1937 that the Nussbaumer family moved in. The rehabilitation was completed in 1996 with the aim of preserving the building in its original spirit: the lower part in ashlar with its arched lintels and the upper part in half-timbering with its two pairs of inclined posts and a St. Andrew's cross in the spandrel panel of the double central window.

Between 1196 and 1202, the bishop of Strasbourg gave the Augustinian nuns of Schoenensteinbach the parish church of Wittenheim and the chapel of Kingersheim. At the end of the 12th century, the chapel received a relic of its patron saint and became a very popular place of pilgrimage. In 1829, the chapel of Saint Adelphe became the parish church of Kingersheim. Built between 1859 and 1861 according to the plans of the architect Jean-Baptiste Schacre in replacement of the old chapel, the church of St Adelphe is equipped with a clock system of which there are only 2 examples in Alsace. Inside, a real treasure is nestled, a Virgin and Child, a historical monument commissioned in 1515 by the convent of Schoenensteinbach. The statue has been exhibited in the Louvre Museum. The artificial grotto in front of the church was built in 1919. The inhabitants of the village had sworn to build it during the 1914-1918 war if their village was spared.

The first church of Sainte Marie was replaced in 1770. The one that succeeded it was destroyed during the Second World War. The bell tower collapsed on February 4, 1945 at 9:30 am. On May 19, 1957, the first stone of the new building was laid. It was built in concrete following the plans of the architects Baur and Muller. Its architecture is close to the "Perret line", the campanile is detached from the vessel. All the works of the old building (including a statue of Saint Erasmus, a Deploration of Christ from the 16th century and paintings by Bulfer from the 18th century) have been returned to their place in the current one. It was consecrated on June 18, 1959 during the "Fêtes du renouveau".

The Fernand-Anna mining estate, located between Wittenheim and Kingersheim, was built as a housing estate between 1908 and 1930; started under the German regime, the construction was continued after 1918 by the state-owned potash mines of Alsace, a French nationalized company. The housing estate had a total of 585 dwellings; it included 13 types of workers' houses, 4 types of employees' houses and 5 types of engineers' houses. The construction of these houses was accompanied by the realization of facilities: a home for bachelors (destroyed in 1920), schools (1928), a medical-social center (1930), the church called chapel (1937) and an auditorium (destroyed).
