This varied route passes through orchards, where cherry, apple, mirabelle and quetsch trees flourish, forests, fields and vineyards. The itinerary follows flat, rolling terrain, pleasant for its diversity and its views of the Vosges mountains.
Orchards: Alsace's orchards include many tall fruit trees such as apples and cherries, as well as two typical Alsatian trees: the mirabel and the quetschier. The latter represents around 24% of Alsace's orchards. These numerous orchards enable Alsace to offer a wide range of eaux-de-vie and liqueurs.
Alsace's agriculture: although winegrowing is by far Alsace's "flagship" agricultural activity, it has many facets: large-scale cereal crops structure the landscape on the plains, fruit growing and market gardening still play an important role, and many communes have built part of their wealth on forestry.
