Description

To the west of the Outre-Forêt region, the Pays de Hanau offers a succession of gentle hills. From Val de Moder to Zinswiller, the road crosses a hilly landscape. It then skirts the foothills of the Vosges du Nord, entering the charming Meisenbach valley after Ingwiller. At the end of this valley, after a few twists and turns through the forest, you come to La Petite Pierre, a village clinging to a rocky promontory and home to a 13th-century castle built into the side of the cliff. The route continues westwards along the edge of the Lorraine plateau towards Petersbach, then Graufthal and its incredible troglodyte houses. After more twists and turns, synonymous with a new incursion into the heart of the sandstone Massif, the route leads to the quaint town of Neuwiller-les-Saverne, with its ancient Abbey Church of Sts-Pierre-et-Paul and its ancient Collegiate Church of Saint-Adelphe. The route continues on to Bouxwiller, at the foot of the mysterious Colline du Bastberg. The town boasts an outstanding architectural heritage, as well as the Musée du Pays de Hanau and the Musée Judéo-Alsacien. Back to Val de Moder, famous for its Musée de l'Imagerie Populaire.
