This is the longest cycle route on offer, but undoubtedly the easiest. It offers a variety of landscapes: vineyards, urban landscapes including the town of Sélestat, and the Alsatian Ried. The return journey via Illhaeusern and Guémar takes in two historically linked villages.
The Ried: Located in the center of the Alsace plain, the Ried is a vast wetland shaped by the vagaries of the Rhine and Ill rivers. Ried comes from the Old Alemannic word "Rieth", meaning "rush" (reed). This atypical wetland is made up of vast meadows and forests with lush vegetation, criss-crossed by numerous watercourses and an underground water table, and inhabited by an original flora and fauna.
The "Porc-épic" tank: During the Second World War, during the fighting known as the "Colmar pocket", this allied battle tank, named "Porc-épic", took part in the liberation of the village of Illhaeusern. This tank, preserved as a commemorative monument, is located not far from the theater of operations.
