The forest is an exceptional environment and throughout this walk, you will have an opportunity to explore the north side of the valley, enjoying extraordinary views of Mont Blanc and the Beaufortain massif.
Hikers, you are going to follow a trail that goes through an environment where man has intervened in different ways resulting in an alternance of developed sites and forests. There are 9 information boards on different themes along the way:
* Les Bâches stream: controlling erosion
* the reach where the flow of free water is controlled
* silviculture or the art of cultivating the forest
* the sentinels of the forest
* panorama: the mountains that surround us
* a brief history of the resort
* the evolution of the landscape
* trees in the mountains
* the boundaries of the forest

Au fil de la balade, vous découvrirez l'activité des mines de charbon en exploitation jusqu'au XXe siècle. Les ruines que l'observe marquent l'importance des mines à cette époque.
Un itinéraire ludique et thématique pour la famille, jalonnée de 9 modules d'information sur la nature et la montagne.
En partant de la Place de l'Etoile à Montchavin, remonter derrière le lavoir.
Vous arriverez sur un chemin large (p). Le remonter puis bifurquer à droite (p), traverser la route et poursuivre vers l'ouest sur un bon sentier (plusieurs tables d'orientation). Le sentier s'élargit et mont peu à peu pour arriver à un large carrefour (p). Tourner vers la gauche et poursuivre ce large chemin.Vous arriverez à un chalet (crévaillet)
Vous arrivez à un chalet. Le contourner puis aller au Coches (p).
Rentrer à Montchavin en empruntant le petit tunnel (table d'orientation). Sous le câble du télésiège, virer à gauche pour descendre au village.

Departure from Montchavin
1/ From the Place de l'Etoile in Montchavin, walk up behind the wash-house.
2/ At the top of the village (P), turn right and walk along the various buildings. You will come to a wide path (P). Go up it and then fork right (P), cross the road and continue west along a good path (several information tables). The path widens and gradually rises to reach a wide crossroads (P). You will come to a place called "l'Observatoire".
3/ Turn right onto the road, where you will see the "nature trail" sign in front of you.
4/ Take the road up towards l'Orgère, and 50 m after the bend in the road, you will see the next section of the path.
5/ Fork right and continue eastwards (information boards) for 1 km. Finally, turn right (P). The path crosses the road and rejoins the village of Montchavin.
Departure from Les Coches
1/ From Les Coches, take the route opposite the Intersport shop (P).
You will come to a place called "l'Observatoire".
2 / Turn right onto the road, where you will see the "sentier nature" sign in front of you.
3 / Take the road up towards l'Orgère, and 50 m after the bend in the road, you will see the next part of the path.
4/ Fork right and continue eastwards (information boards) for 1 km. Finally, turn right (P). The path crosses the road and then reaches the village of Montc
