This walk immerses you in the heart of the listed Jongieux-Marestel winegrowing area. Let yourself be seduced by the surrounding landscapes, particularly from the panoramic site of St-Romain.
Discover the Jongieux vineyard, the most westerly in the Alps. These clay-limestone slopes are ideal for growing and developing vines. Various grape varieties are grown here, and the network of farm tracks and tracks that run through the vineyards helps to maintain the vines and keep the water flowing. Dry-stone walls along the paths help to support the limestone slopes.
Along the way, you'll come across several nuggets, including the Church of Saint-Maurice, with its stained-glass windows recounting key stages in the development of the vine and the history of the region.
Further along, the Chapelle St-Romain site, with its belvedere and observation sights, offers a breathtaking view of the Yenne basin. Built in the 1990s, the chapel features stained glass windows evoking the commune's winegrowing heritage. Picnic tables provide a place to rest and relax.
The walk overlooks the natural Rhône, the river that has shaped the landscape. The banks are a refuge for species such as the European beaver.
Today, the Rhône forms a natural border between the departments of Savoie and Ain.
(We recommend that you take this tour outside the harvest period, to help the grape harvest run smoothly).
