Starting from the Via Ferrata Office in Caire, this loop trail offers a chance to explore a relatively unknown part of the Provence Highlands. A challenging climb leads to the ridges overlooking the Grand Vallon.
At the Via Ferrata office (800 m), follow the D 951 for 500 m toward Faucon du Caire.
Turn left onto a path through the broom bushes, then take a winding trail that leads to La Fougère (1081 m).
From there, a steep trail—first in the sun and then in the shade—climbs to a clearing near the summit of Piéfourcha. Continue along the ridge for 800 m.
From the hamlet of La Colle (1,300 m), take the trail to the left, following the contour line. The trail becomes increasingly steep until it reaches the river. Follow the river at a leisurely pace, crossing several fords, until you reach a forest trail, which you follow to the left.
In the village of Le Caire (786 m), keep left between the houses to return to the base of the via ferrata and the trailhead.
