This estate, on the edge of a lake, offers comfortable, unusual and unusual accommodation for a different kind of vacation!At the crossroads of Bresse, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Dombes, Bugey and Lyon, and ideally located 5 minutes from exit 10 of the A39 (le jura) and very close to the A6, you'll be staying at Saint-Nizier-le-Bouchoux, in a shady, relaxing estate. With family or friends, the Mépillat lake is ideal for walks and picnics around the shady banks. The lake is full of carp, tench, perch and minnows which are excellent for frying!Enjoy the peace and quiet of a day at the water's edge, and discover the many ponds and rivers in our region. Dominant la place du village, l'église Saint-Nizier ne manque pas de charme avec sa galonnière et ses petites ouvertures médiévales. D'origine romane, l'édifice a toutefois été plusieurs fois remanié, avec une dernière restauration dans les années 1990.Nizier, martyr chrétien du IIe siècle, devenu saint, est depuis vénéré à Lyon et sa région. Deux communes de l'Ain portent son nom. A Saint-Nizier le Bouchoux, des documents anciens attestent de la présence d'une église dès le XIe siècle. Au XIIIe siècle, elle est mentionnée comme dépendance de l'abbaye bénédictine de Saint-Pierre de Gigny (Jura) et un prieuré lui est associé. De l'édifice roman (XIIe s.) subsistent notamment les petites ouvertures, remarquables à l'extérieur. La galonnière (auvent) a été datée de 1391-93, suite à une étude dendrochronologique et la charpente est de la même époque. Comme la majorité des clochers de l'Ain, celui-ci a été détruit au cours de la Terreur, en 1794, puis reconstruit dix ans plus tard. Il est couvert de tuiles vernissées de Pontigny. A l'intérieur, les modifications des temps gothiques sont bien visibles, notamment les arcs ogivaux donnant accès aux chapelles latérales nord (à gauche de l'entrée). La première est la chapelle Saint-Jean Baptiste et la deuxième est la chapelle Saint-Georges également appelée ""des seigneurs de Saint-Nizier"". On y trouve un remarquable hagioscope qui permettait autrefois au seigneur de suivre l'office depuis sa chapelle, à laquelle il avait un accès privé depuis l'extérieur (porte murée perceptible dans l'angle). En poursuivant, on trouve la chapelle Saint-Barthélémy qui forme l'un des bras du transept. Idem côté sud, avec la chapelle Saint-Antoine qui est aussi la plus ancienne de toutes. En 1993, au cours des travaux de restauration, on mit au jour un retable sculpté, un monolithe de calcaire encastré dans le mur et représentant la Résurrection : sept personnages ouvragés à la fin du XVe ou au début du XVIe siècle.

La chapelle actuelle date de 1873 ; elle découle d'un pèlerinage important datant du début du XVIIIe siècle. Présence d'ex-votos à l'intérieur et traces de fresques très abîmées par l'humidité. Projet de sauvetage en cours (Fondation du Patrimoine).Ce qui aurait pu être un simple fait divers en 1730 est à l'origine d'un lieu de pèlerinage, toujours fréquenté de nos jours, suite à un vœu fait par Messire Jean Pillot, seigneur du Tiret à Foissiat et lieutenant général du présidial de Bourg. Un soir, alors qu'il finissait de parcourir ses domaines, passant à travers les bois de Chamandray pour regagner son château, son cheval s’arrête, se cabre et refuse d’avancer. En regardant autour de lui, il découvre une statuette de la Vierge Marie dans le creux d’un arbre, lieu aménagé par les habitants pour prier. Ému de cette rencontre inattendue, il fait le vœu d'y construire une chapelle. Le vœu à peine formulé, le cheval redevient calme et reprend son allure habituelle. Ce fut donc la première chapelle sous forme d’oratoire, nommée "Notre-Dame du prompt secours". Dévastée au cours de la Révolution, ce n’était plus qu’une ruine. Pourtant les habitants des environs continuèrent leur pèlerinage. La chapelle fut restaurée en 1809, mais était beaucoup trop petite car les fidèles venaient nombreux. Une nouvelle chapelle voit le jour en 1873 grâce à la générosité des pèlerins, aux offrandes et souscriptions volontaires : le curé du moment et ses paroissiens ayant fait le voeu de la reconstruire si Cormoz était épargné par les Prussiens et si aucun soldat originaire de la commune n'était tué. Aujourd’hui le pèlerinage à Notre-Dame de Bellor a toujours lieu en mai et septembre.
