The Refuge de Chésery invites you to experience alpine life at its most authentic!Built in the 19th century, the Refuge de Chésery was originally a barn. This structure was renovated in 1987 to become a welcoming mountain hut, and was managed as such by the Es-Borrat family for 21 years. In 2008, the Grenon family eventually took it over, maintaining the refuge but also selling their own local, homemade specialities. Wiliam Grenon began keeping his sheep in the Chésery alpage in 1982, so this is the perfect farm-to-table shop for his produce. The hut is also a stopping place on the famous GR5, Grande Traversée des Alps hiking itinerary.
Ideally situated at the Champéry-Planachaux cable car arrival station, the Croix de Culet restaurant welcomes sports and nature lovers whenever the cable car is open.Accessible in mere minutes by cable car, we cater to a diverse clientele with a wide selection of seasonal dishes and local specialties. The one thing all our clients love, without exception, is getting away from it all. The panoramic views from our vast terrace and huge bay windows are spectacular. Everywhere you look, the Dents du Midi and Dents Blanches mountains span the horizon - food for your soul!
Inaugurated in 1987, the iconic red and white Champéry cable car whisks you to a height of 1,962 metres in under 5 minutes. The cable car linking Champéry to the Croix de Culet was built in 1987 by the famous ropeway transport company Garaventa. The 2 cabins hold 125 people, with an hourly flow of 1,000 people. The cable car spans a distance of 899 vertical meters from the departure point at 1,037 m altitude to the arrival point at 1,936 m. At the top, pedestrians in search of tranquillity will be awestruck by the panoramic views from the Croix de Culet while skiers can access the vast Portes du Soleil ski slopes. In summer, mountain bikers can set off for a multitude of downhill and enduro trails and hikers equipped with the Multi Pass can take the cable car and all of the Portes du Soleil lifts for free. At the arrival point, and the jumping-off point for the ski slopes, you will find a restaurant, snack bar, restrooms, and panoramic views from a vast, sunny terrace. How to get here? If you are arriving by car, there is a large car park in front of the cable car. It is free in summer and costs CHF 5.- per day in winter. Overnight parking is not allowed in winter. The AOMC regional train arrives right at the departure station of the cable car ('Champéry' stop).
This idyllic alpine pasture in the heart of Les Portes du Soleil, easily accessible on foot or by chairlift, is a popular picnic destination for families and a renowned fishing spot!Built in the 19th century, the Refuge de Chesery was initially just a sturdy cowshed. Renovated in 1987, the bulding was transformed into a welcoming refuge. For over two decades, the refuge was run by the Es-Borrat family, until 2008 when they handed it over William Grenon. He, along with his vast herds of sheep, has been summering here since 1982. You'll find him still here today, caring for his sheep and offering his own local products and Valaisan specialties for sale at the refuge.
