The origin of this fortified city, coiled in a meander of the Vézère, goes back to the mists of time. The Gauls already lived in Uzerche. In the 10th century, its monastery was very powerful and its Benedictine abbey radiant. The Saint-Pierre abbey, remains a major witness of the Limousin Romanesque art with its typical octagonal bell tower. The city bristling with towers, full of vaulted passages, adorned with houses similar to small castles, forms a remarkable and rare architectural ensemble, hence the proverb "Who has a house in Uzerche has a castle in Limousin". The rehabilitation of the paper mill has given birth to an exceptional cultural center, signed by the architect Jean Michel Wilmotte. The commune lies on the Limousin plateaux of south-western Correze, on the border between Haute-Vienne and Dordogne. The name Lubersac is derived from Lupersacum, the estate of Lupercus, a wealthy Roman who established his villa here around 40 AD. The church of St-Étienne, with its 22 historiated capitals, boasts one of the most important Romanesque sculptural decorations in the Limousin region. In the heart of the village, the Renaissance Maison des Archiprêtres features arcades, mullioned windows and sculptures. The Château du Verdier is reminiscent of 15th century feudal architecture, with towers, machicolations and decorative battlements. Lubersac was the birthplace of Joseph Souham, one of Napoleon's most famous generals, in 1760. This picturesque medieval town in Corrèze, on the banks of the Auvézère river, is dominated by the imposing remains of its castle, which is currently being restored. At the crossroads of the Haute-Vienne, Corrèze and Dordogne departments, the site is listed as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France" and has joined the "Pays d?Art et d?Histoire Vézère Ardoise". The cradle of the first Viscounts of Limoges, this site was also the seat of a "Court of Appeals" from the 15th to the 18th century, and enjoyed great prosperity. The village boasts a number of remarkable 15th- and 16th-century residences, including the Tour Saint-Laurent dwelling and the Tour du Guet and Henri IV houses (turrets, half-timbering, spiral staircases, monumental fireplaces, etc.).

Pompadour is a small town famous for its castle, a gift from Louis XV to his favourite Jeanne Le Normant d'Etiolles, and also for its National Stud and its Mare Mare House, unique in France. Pompadour is the cradle of the Anglo-Arabian breed and since 1976 has had a Horse Institute and hosts renowned horse shows. Gallop, cross-country and steeplechase races are held from the last weekend of June to September on the racecourse, which is reputed to be one of the most beautiful in France. The majestic facade of the castle invites you to go back in time to discover the Marquise's world. The visit continues with the Marquise's stables and the Orangery stables where it is possible to see Anglo-Arabs, draft horses and the presidential horses. Equestrian shows and cabarets are now part of the key events of the summer.

Situated on a hill (320 m), on the borders of the Limousin and the Périgord, Saint-Robert has preserved a medieval character which makes it one of the 'most beautiful villages of France'. It was the setting for the television series based on the novels of Claude Michelet. Of the Romanesque church, only the choir and the transept remain. The nave was destroyed during the Wars of Religion. Next to the octagonal bell tower, above the crossing, there is a polygonal lantern for the dead and a square defensive tower added in the 16th century. Saint-Robert has a very medieval charm with its old stately homes, its narrow streets and the remains of fortified gates. It was the seat of a Court of Appeals.

On leaving the village of Ayen, take the D39 towards Brive, then turn left towards the route des puys. At the top of the Ayen hill, you can commune with nature, admiring breathtaking landscapes from the 360° panoramic viewpoints: the Auvergne mountains, the Limousin mountains and, closer to home, the Puy d'Yssandon, Vignols and Hautefort viaducts. Medieval 16th-century "becs" bridge over the Vézère with six ogival arches. In the past, it was a toll and pontoon bridge. At the foot of the bridge, a picnic area with games for children has been laid out on the Allassac side.

Saint-Jean-Baptiste church is built in Gothic style, in black schist enhanced by red sandstone. Its massive square bell tower, fortified with machicolations, gives it a fortress-like appearance. To the south, a typically Limousin-style doorway opens, trimmed with slender cylindrical mouldings and a poly-lobed inner arch. On a hill on the left bank of the Vézère river, the houses of this charming little town cling together. The Vigeois abbey church, built in the 12th century, boasts a splendid series of sculpted capitals of great iconographic interest.
