▶ Before setting off :
Check the general and local weather forecast, and make sure there's no precipitation.
Find out about the approach route, the height of the itinerary, the time it will take to complete the climb, and any possible escapes (IGN map, GPS, topo-guide, etc.).
Evaluate possible risks by asking mountain professionals, mountain huts and gîtes.
Inform someone close to you of your objective, and contact them again in the event of any changes: departure and return times, number of participants with telephone numbers for each, vehicle(s), parking, etc.
Avoid setting off alone, and use equipment that is suitable for the activity, adjusted and in good condition: headlamp, complete first-aid kit, survival blanket, etc.
In the event of a problem, call 112 (European emergency number).
(1) From the center of La Faucille, at the foot of the Montrond telecombi, take the path that runs alongside the departure station on the left. Pass under the ski lift, then under the rails of the alpine toboggan.
(2) Ten metres further on, the path forks to the left and plunges into the undergrowth. The ascent begins here, on a landscaped path where progress is made naturally by a series of steps. Step by step, the forest reveals itself with two panoramic platforms offering a halt to catch your breath and admire the scenery. Educational panels help you learn more about the wild flora that surrounds you. A total of 419 steps mark this steady ascent.
(3) The finish line is at an altitude of 1540m at the summit of Petit Montrond, which offers a 360° panorama. An orientation table and binoculars enable you to identify the surrounding peaks, from the Jura massif to the Alps in the background. It's an inviting place for contemplation.
You can return by the same route once you have enjoyed the view.
