Circuit-Découverte Saint-Aubin-sur-mer

Gothic Revival church. By royal decree in 1831, the hamlet of Saint-Aubin was given a vicarial chapel. It was not fully detached from the parish of Langrune until 1843, when its first parish priest was appointed. But it was Abbé BOSSARD who built the present church, starting in the 1850s. The church is closed outside religious services. Free guided tours in summer. Registration required.

An unusual feature of Saint-Aubin-surMer, these passageways and little lanes all lead to the sea. The small width of some of the lanes allowed the wind to blow in and to dry the fishing nets hung on the long stone walls that bordered the fishermen’s houses

The first villa was built at the beginning of the 1860s on the dune by the great architect of the National Historical Monuments, Ruprich-Robert. The great period of construction began in 1870 and especially in 1876 after the development of the railway. The villa Loggia (photo) was built in 1902 by A. Aumasson.

The Sculpture Route was set up throughout Europe thanks to the association the Peace Route as a symbol of peace and friendship between countries. The idea was initiated by Otto Freundlich, a German painter and sculptor (1878-1943), then taken over by the sculptor Léo Kornbrust
