The cross of Pagenauds, dated 1839 and located near the village of the same name, was also called "cross Chadrat". The saying goes "On Mardi-Gras all the cats go to the Chadrat cross".
And indeed, the legend tells that on Mardi-Gras day the cats gather, often at a crossroads or around a cross, to make their carnival. They steal beforehand in the houses, pans, flour, sugar and eggs to make their pancakes. The men were not supposed to follow until their gathering! One did not know well which fate was reserved for those which would have ventured until there! In the Montmorillonnais region, other communes have a cross for the gathering of cats, in Sillars or in Nalliers.
This loop is part of a set of 12 loops called "Le Carnaval des Chats" and located in the area of Antigny, Haims and Jouhet.
