Saint-Cyr sur-Morin

Description

A typical small and bright country house was once the home of writer Pierre Mac Orlan.
The Seine-et-Marne museum and a colourful courtyard, which hosted a replica of “Le Lapin Agile”, a cabaret in Monmartre, during the roaring twenties can also be seen on this stroll.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

1- From the town hall car park, walk to the church square and walk up Rue Eugène Daumont to the stop sign.

2- Take the street leading up to the left then immediately take the street leading down to the right for a few metres and take Chemin de Courcelles to the left.

3 - At the first fork, walk up to the left along the woods edge and take the path on the right. For 1.8 km follow the old railway, called the “Chemin du Tacot”, then take the walkway over Ru de Choisel, at the entrance of the old mill, walk down to the right and continue along the edge of the woods.

4- At the next crossroads take the path that goes up to left through the undergrowth. Cross D204, then turn off to the right along the woods on the marshland trail. Then turn left between 2 pastures and walk to D114 which you follow to the right to the entrance to Romeny.

5- At the entrance to Jouarre, turn right on Rue du Marteroy.
At the bend, turn right and walk down 1 km until you reach side path.

6- Walk down the path opposite. Take D204 on the right for a few metres, then take the road to the left. Cross Le Petit-Morin.

7- At the crossroads, turn right, go through Vanry, continue straight until you reach Biercy. Turn left and follow Monthomé.
Climb straight up via the shortcut and take the gravel path on the right. After the curve, go right and walk to La Méresse hamlet (large house with a pond). Take the path to the right to the road that leads through L’Hermitière.

8- At the centre of the hamlet, on the right, take the path that leads down through the woods. At the bottom, turn left and then right and, at the intersection, turn right and continue to Archets hamlet (the house of Mac Orlan is located 150 m to the right).
Follow the road on the left, cross Le Petit Morin and pass the courtyard of the inn Oeuf dur et de l’Amour. Cross D31 and walk up Rue Verte opposite.
Take D37 to the left until you reach the Seine-et-Marne museum. Turn right to reach the church.
