The Orvin is an affluent of the Seine and the leitmotiv of this hike along the border between Seine-et-Marne and Aube. We will come across several washhouses in various shapes and forms, and the lovely church in Fontaines-Fourches.

1- Starting at St Aignan’s church, follow Grande Rue then Rue du Four d’Athis to the Seine. At the hamlet of Athis, continue on your right along Rue de Champignole and carefully! cross the D411. Take the track on the other side, walk along the Vieil-Orvin until you reach the Orvin, which you cross.
2- Continue in the same direction until you reach another arm of the Orvin and turn right to follow it. After the transmission line, head left, cross the brook and enter the wood. At the road, follow the track on your right to the washhouse in Cercy.
3- Cross the D-road and continue opposite along the edge of the wood, then through fields until you reach another road.
Follow this road for 40m and, as it bends to the right, continue straight ahead along the track to the La-Folie mill.
4- Turn right, cross the Orvin, walk along the property and take a lane leading to the D49. Follow this road, then take the track along the edge of the wood. At the second crossroads, turn right into the wood, past the washhouse and go up to Fontaine-Fourches church.
5- Go round the church to get back to Rue St-Martin. Turn left into this street for about 400m. Take the narrow alleyway on your right, to the road leading to St Martin’s washhouse.
Go back up to the alley and turn right onto the path along the gardens. Before the school, go down on the right. Once you reach the wood, take the track on your left for 50m and turn left again onto a path which bears right to the Cercy road.
6- Cross this road and continue along Rue Aux-Ouches. At the end of the street, take the right path and once you reach the wood, take the left path. Pass the Bas-de-Fourches washhouse.
7- Pass the Bas-de-Fourches washhouse. When you come to the next road, turn right, then take the track on your left along the Cars Moreau coach site. At the second crossroads, head right, go under the transmission line and cross the brook.
Follow the track in the same direction to the D411.
8- Carefully cross the D411 to get to Villiers sur-Seine. Follow Rue Neuve opposite, then Rue de la Place des Fêtes on your right to get back to the village church.
