IUT Sainte-Barbe

[Circuit 4 Siècles d'Architecture]Cette ancienne filature de laine est sans doute l’un des plus beaux exemples de « châteaux de l’industrie ». L’édifice, construit en 1866 par la société Van den Berghe-Marescaux, comme en témoigne les deux lettres V et M sur le mur de l’enceinte, devient la propriété de la société Van den Berghe-Desurmont en 1898. Celle-ci en profite pour se spécialiser dans la production de laine peignée et de laine à tricoter. L’usine cesse toute activité en 1980 et différents projets de réhabilitation voient le jour. C’est finalement une université, l’IUT B-Lille 3 qui s’y installe en 1995. Composée pour le gros-œuvre de brique et de pierre de taille, la bâtisse, sur un étage, est surmontée par un toit à longs pans et un donjon. C'est une très belle illustration d'implantation industrielle en cœur d'îlot. [Circuit Ici c'est ailleurs : Itinéraire Tour de France]ICI / A la fin du 19e siècle, Tourcoing connait une formidable expansion industrielle et de nombreuses usines voient le jour. Surnommés « Châteaux de l’Industrie », leur architecture s’inspire de celle des châteaux, médiévaux ou Renaissance, comme pour l’ancienne filature de laine Van de Berghe–Marescaux transformée en université dans les années 1990.AILLEURS / La Cité de Carcassonne Au 19e siècle, l’architecte Eugène Viollet-Le-Duc restaure la cité médiévale et donne à cet ensemble architectural situé le long de la rivière Aude, sa grandiose silhouette actuelle en dotant ses tours de toitures d’ardoises et de tuiles. La Cité est classée au Patrimoine Mondial de l’Humanité depuis 1997.
