View of the battlefield
A 4-km long natural barrier of hills ends the plain of Trun. This geological and topographical particularity played a crucial role in the outcome of the Battle of Normandy. Also known as the “cuesta”, its sunny slopes are home to flower meadows with a great diversity of flora and fauna, where several rare species of orchid, gentian and bellflower thrive. The high points provide stunning panoramas over the peaceful Vallée de la Dives as well as an understanding of the setting of the terrible battles that took place there.
