Going to school, fetching bread, strolling in front of shop windows, passing by the library, as many daily journeys that could be imagined to be made on foot. Trees in public spaces accompany these journeys between home and public buildings. They provide a built up perspective, mark a crossroads, provide pleasant shade and guide passers-by from one street to another. These trees with their silhouettes, leaf shapes and very different characteristics enrich the urban ambience by bringing elements of nature and rhythm to city dwellers. Daily journeys become pretexts for observing this nature. Children will pick up chestnuts or beechnuts that have fallen on the lawn and fill their pockets with them! We will all enjoy the last rays of sunshine, the autumn colours or the spring blossoms... Trees to observe, trees to protect.
