Starting in Bouillon and ending in Genêts, this 19 km stage provides some gorgeous vistas of the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel, the ultimate reward for walking the coastal path.
The hike begins with some lovely views of Granville, the Chausey Islands and the coast of Brittany in the distance. The path is steeper here, and takes you to the Lude valley, a natural site in an unspoilt setting. Admire the sheer cliffs with the turquoise sea as a backdrop. The sound of waves crashing will guide you to the Port du Lude, a small cove that was once a secret smugglers’ hideout. Why not take a refreshing dip before carrying on to the Cabane Vauban with its fantastic view of Mont Saint-Michel.
Next, the GR®223 takes you to Saint-Jean-le-Thomas, a relaxing little seaside resort. From here, the next few kilometres alternate between roads and fields before reaching the dunes. You might see some horses along the way. The landscapes change as you walk, but Mont Saint-Michel is your constant backdrop. The next few kilometres go across the sand to Bec d’Andaine, the starting point for crossing the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel on foot. Head inland for a just a few more metres to reach Genêts, and the stage is finished! Now sit back and enjoy the view of Mont Saint-Michel with the saltmarsh flowers and sheep in the foreground.
