
Hauteville-la-Guichard is the birthplace of the Norman kings of Italy and Sicily.
It is from here that, around 1036, the sons of a modest lord, Tancrède de Hauteville, set out to conquer southern Italy and Sicily where they gave birth to a powerful kingdom. This plunge into the Corsican bocage is punctuated by beautiful typical farms and hotels.
Remarkable points on the circuit :
0 - Departure to the church near the Tancrède Museum, in the former presbytery, which presents the history of the conquest of Southern Italy by Tancrède de Hauteville, around 1036. A medieval garden is also proposed to you.
1 - On the left of the track, remains of a castle. To the right of the path, a beautiful hotel which is today a farm with a tin roof, the Hôtel Batteur. You meet many of them on your way, hotel ès-Forges, hotel Niobey in "la campagne", hotel ès-Vaux etc...
2 - You are on the GR of Pays Trésors cachés de Coutances.
3 - Turn right towards La Fourchardière to return in less than 3 km.
4 - Pleasant crossing of Montcuit, old village with its old school, a small town hall, a pretty church and very old trees in the cemetery. Montcuit was in ancient times, a seigniory.
5 - Monument to Robert Lee Duffy, further north in Mesnilbus (on the D77). This American fighter pilot whose plane crashed here in July 44 was found in 1992 in Colorado
6 - Attention: take on the right of the road, the small hidden path on the left of the sign " chasse gardée ". You will find here the GR des Trésors cachés de Coutances...

Knife apple conservatory orchard, Marigny, with its beautiful dry stone walls.
Church of Saint-Sauveur-Lendelin: 13th-14th, with a beautiful stained glass window dedicated to Charles-François Lebrun, who was a faithful follower of Bonaparte.
Church of Saint-Aubin-du-Perron, dated 12th-16th, which was under the former regime of the diocese of Coutances.
