I hope that no pilgrim has dipped his stick three times in the miraculous fountain of Chapelle-de-Fest !
Indeed, it would be better if it didn't rain during this easy walk in gently sloping valleys carved by streams. The Saint-Lois is a country of bocage with shaded paths, it is also the country of horses, numerous to graze in the meadows. Will you be lucky enough to see one?
Remarkable points on the circuit:
0- The church of Saint-Jean-Des-Baisants was completed in 1962. The building is made of apparent granite. The stained glass windows are the main interest of the church, based on the opposition between the coloured windows in the north and the monochrome windows in the south.
1 - Norman bocage and meeting point of 2 streams: the Précorbin, which flows towards the eponymous village, and the Hamel. You are in a 2nd valley.
2 - Intersection with the GR221 to be walked in 5 days (129km) in the country of Saint-Lô, its beautiful countryside and its matrimonial riches.
3 - The chapel of Saint Pierre was for a long time a place of pilgrimage very frequented during the great droughts to make it rain by plunging 3 times the stick of the processional cross in the fountain. The Grotto of the Chapel was built in memory of a group of parishioners who took refuge there during the bombings in 1944 and were saved.
4 - The Old Manor of the XIth and XIIth century. Not to be visited
5 - Le Tonnerre is an abandoned hamlet with great charm. Make a stop to enjoy the beautiful panorama
Remarkable points in the vicinity:
Château des Matignon, Torigni sur Vire: castle of the XVIth and XVIIth century, classified as Historic Monument having belonged during three centuries to the Matignon family. Inside, collection of old furniture, tapestries, Arthur the Duke museum.
The ponds of Torigni-sur-Vire: trace of ditches that Robert of Gloucester had dug around the castle made virtually impregnable by potential enemies. Today, the walk under the lime trees is very popular.
