La VéloWestNormandy : de Bayeux à Villers-Bocage

Sleep in a Cyclo'tente at Camping des Bords de l'Aure in Bayeux. This tent structure, half wood / half canvas on a floor, has 2 single beds (also available in a single model) and is equipped with electricity (European plugs). A plus for cyclists: bikes are sheltered at the back of the hut in a bike box. A must for travelling light on the Vélomaritime.

And an electric cycle means less effort for you, as you meander your way along the country roads in quest of Normandy’s treasures. Routes: - half day from Bayeux to Arromanches. - full day from Bayeux to Omaha Beach or Gold/Juno Beach. - tailor-devised tours across France. You can book up to 4pm the previous day (minimum 2 participants). Departures from Rue Nesmond, near the Bayeux Tapestry, or from your hotel. A certified ‘Museum of France’, the MABH invites you on a journey through the history of European art, via a display of 600 works of art (Caillebotte, Van Dongen, Boudin, etc.), 800 archaeological and ethnographic exhibits, 800 Bayeux porcelain pieces and 100 lace exhibits. You will also learn of Normandy’s eventful history, from prehistory to the modern age. Within an innovative scenographic display, the museum’s collections are housed in Bayeux’s former episcopal palace, a listed historic monument.

The church and monastery form a fine classical architectural group erected in the 18th century by Eustache Restout. Both buildings and site are listed. In the north transept, the Virgin's chapel: sculptured group in terracotta sculpture from Noron la Poterie, by Melchior Verly. Premonstratensian abbey and highly active cultural centre. Group reservation available. Guided tour at 4 p.m. every day from 01/07 to 31/08 and at 3.30 p.m. on Sundays from 01/09 to 30/06.

Located 3km away from Bayeux and a few minutes' drive from the D-Day landing beaches, Viard cider factory was established back in 1932. Its cider is produced with apples originated from Norman orchards. Guided tour will allow you to visit the orchard and discover the cider making process of the "Bayeux" cider. A tasting of different kind of cider, apple juice and locally made Calvados and Pommeau de Normandie will conclude the visit nicely. Our crafty cider is guaranteed 100% pure juice without colorants.

ATTENTION! The Bayeux Tapestry Museum is closed for renovation work. The Tapestry will remain inaccessible until the museum reopens in October 2027. Listed on Unesco's Memory of the World register since 2007, the Bayeux Tapestry is a genuine masterpiece of Romanesque art. This one-piece canvas wall hanging, embroidered in the 11th century, is of a length of 70m and a height of 50cm. It offers an illustrated narration of the Norman Conquest of England in 1066 by the Duke of Normandy, later to become William the Conqueror. It is a truly unique document on European life in the Middle Ages.
