From the forests of Sautour to the gateway to the Ardennes

You leave Sautour through the forest, before reaching Roly and its pretty houses made from local stone. Roly and Sautour boast postcard-ready landscapes and are typical villages of the Namur Fens region, located among oak forests, meadows and trees. After admiring the castle farm, which is listed as Medieval heritage, you continue on the path towards Fagnolle and Dourbes. A nature reserve spans more than 200 hectares to the south and west of Dourbes. It comprises two major Walloon limestone sites: the Montagne-aux-Buis and the Roche à Lomme, two imposing hills that dominate the Eau Blanche valley. It is in this valley that the Viroin river is born, at the confluence of the Eau Blanche and Eau Noire rivers. You weave around the Viroin river until you reach Vierves-sur-Viroin, one of the ‘Most Beautiful Villages in Wallonia’, and its stunning castle belonging to the Counts of Hamal, which is known for its unique architecture.
