DURATION: 1 hour round trip
From the Cap Lahoussaye to the Cap Marianne, with an ocean view throughout the walk.
ITINERARY
This walk takes place off the beaten track. Even though the roads are well-trodden, there is no signposting in place. Park in the Cap Lahoussaye car park (preferable the earth car park on the mountain side, which will mean you won't have to cross the RN1). Take the concrete path on the left from the car park and go around the barrier. The path is concrete only on this small ascent.
At first the path is steep, you go up quickly, then the panorama unfolds in front of your eyes: the blue of the ocean as far as you can see on one side, the blond of the savannah on the other side. You will see the Saint-Paul bay and the town of Le Port from afar. Follow the path that runs along the rock face and go as far as you can towards Cap Marianne. Don't go too close to the edge, the drop is impressive. On arriving above the "Les Sables" neighbourhood, not far from Cap Marianne, you will see some stone statues, left there certainly by "artist" walkers! Turn around and go down the same route in reverse.
During the whole hike, between June and October, look carefully at the ocean, it is not uncommon to see whales.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION: Remember to take water with you and a cap or sun hat. There is no shade in the savannah.
