Discovering Sambreville

On August 21, 1914, this French Corporal died defending the Tamines bridge crossing to delay the Germans. Erected in his memory in July 1923 and rebuilt in 1974, the monument is topped with his effigy.

The Moignelée swale is a former meander of the Sambre River, before it was channeled. Between the swale and the Sambre lies a marshy area that has been refilled, a natural haven next to the former Bonne Espérance coal mine.Fishing allowed.

Built in 1833, this neoclassical building retains a tower from 1704. In 1896, the church was rebuilt in neo-Gothic style. On the façade, one can read "Ampliata anno 1896" and "Erecta anno 1833". In the choir there is a Christ from the 16th century.
