This magnificent hike on the plateau of Ambel, invites you to the recollection on the traces of the events of the resistance in the Vercors.A discreet and attentive walk can reserve you surprises: deer, chamois, foxes, "remarkable" trees, gentians, orchids ... a great natural diversity to discover!
6.">Depart Gardiol (parking), take the direction of the Tête de la Dame 6. 1 et va rejoindre Le Verâtre 2 (jonction avec le GR 93).">The road runs south, passes by the Combe de la Louvaterre 1 and goes to join Le Verâtre 2 (junction with the GR 93). 3 puis atteindre le Pas du Gouillat 4.">Then take the path that leads to the Ambel Refuge 3 and then the Pas du Gouillat 4. 5 (jonction avec l'itinéraire du Grand Tour du Vercors à pied), le sentier poursuit son ascension progressive et régulière pour atteindre">From there, leave the GR which goes to the right and continue along the crests to the crossroads Les Sarnats 5 (junction with the route of the Grand Tour du Vercors on foot), the trail continues its gradual and regular ascent to reach The Tête de la Dame (exceptional panorama). 7 et Les Moutons 8 où l'on prend la direction du nord en traversant le plateau d'Ambel pour">This magnificent hike continues along the cliff (with the children!), passing through the Pas de Rouisse 7 and Les Moutons 8, where you take the direction of the north crossing the plateau of Ambel to j9.">oin the crossing Pâturage du Tubanet 9. 10, le retour au parking de Gardiol s'effectue par le GR 93 en repassant au Verâtre puis par la Combe de La Louvaterre.">At the Refuge de Tubanet 10, return to the parking of Gardiol is done by the GR 93 by going back to the Verâtre then by the Combe de La Louvaterre.

Advice
Be careful when crossing the cliffs. You are in the regulated departmental area of Ambel, picking flowers is prohibited. Similarly on a large part of the circuit, dogs are prohibited by departmental decree from May 1 to October 30, even on a leash. Thinking about closing the gates of the parks is also to think of the shepherds and the flocks.
Herd protection dogs
In the mountain pastures, the guard dogs are there to protect the herds from predators. When I hike, I adapt my behaviour by going around the herd and pausing so that the dog can identify me. Click here to see the video : c'est quoi au juste un chien de protection ?

Access
From Saint-Jean-Royans, follow the D131, then the D331 and the D199 towards Col de la Bataille, park at Gardiol (parking).From Vassieux-en-Vercors follow the D 76 then the D199 towards the Col de la Bataille, park in the Gardiol car park.

The plateau of Ambel with its vast lawns, forests and glades, is a place rich in history linked to the resistance in the Vercors. It is today a vast area of estive classified Sensitive Natural Area, property of the department of Drôme where the wide open spaces are available to you.Between the prealps of the north and the south, fauna and flora are particularly rich.
