Description

This is not an exceptionally long stage, but the ascent of four passes makes it unique and memorable: Col de Menté (1st category - average gradient 6.6%, maximum gradient 11.4%), Col des Ares (2nd category - average gradient 3.9%, maximum gradient 11%), Port de Balès (unclassified - average gradient 6.3%, maximum gradient 11.7%), climb to Peyragudes (category 1 - average gradient 5.1%, maximum gradient 11.7%).

First, you need to descend into the valley and reach Cierp-Gaud. At the roundabout, head towards Saint-Béat-Lez to tackle the first climb of the day with the Col de Menté. Descend to Sengouagnet then Juzet d'Izaut, where you will tackle the second climb with the Col des Ares. After the summit, head towards Frontignan-de-Comminges and then Saint-Pé-d'Ardet. Cross the Pas du Bouchet to reach Sauveterre-de-Comminges via Génos. Head towards Barbazan, then Labroquère, Loures-Barousse and Mauléon Barousse. This is where the day's climb begins, with the unclassified Port de Balès pass. During the descent, you will pass through the villages of the Oueil valley to join the D 618 and climb to the Col de Peyresourde. At the pass, descend for 4 km and turn left towards the Peyragudes ski resort.
