Causse de Blandas by Homs

Description

Le Vigan - Alzon - Col de la Barriere - Homs - Vissec - Blandas - Montdardier - Le Vigan

A slightly longer route on the Causse, with the possibility of seeing the Navacelles cirque from the Blandas lookout.

You'll start your outing with a false-flat profile rising to the Alzon tunnel, which you'll have to bypass by a short climb as it's off-limits to bikes. After Alzon, you leave the D999 for a less busy but fairly steep road, the D49, to Campestre and Luc, then the D270 to Col de la Barrière and Homs (D273).

Then head south on a typical Causse road and return downhill to Vissec via Sorbs. Take the D113 up to the village of Blandas. If you've never been to the Cirque de Navacelles, or if you'd like to see it again, you can make a short round trip (less than 3 km) to the Belvedere de Blandas, from where you can admire the majestic cirque and the meandering Vis river.

Return along a fairly straight road to the village of Montdardier (D113) and its imposing château. Then take the winding road down to Le Vigan (D48s), with its backdrop of the Aigoual massif and the Cevennes mountains.

Electric bike recharging point at the Blandas belvedere parking lot (bring your own cable).
