65 - LA CABANE DE PEYREHITTE

Description
A unique viewpoint over the high peaks of Luchon and the Maladetta massif. Follow in the footsteps of hikers on the GR 10, the legendary trail that crosses the Pyrenees from east to west. Did you know? Luchon is located right in the middle of this 900 km long trail.
Cross the village of Artigue until you reach the church, where you will find the GR10 or No. 65 signposts leading up through the pastures to the Saunères hut, then higher up to the Peyrehitte hut (where you may encounter herds of cattle with Patou dogs).

Detailed stages
1 - Cross the village of Artigue. At the exit, after the church, take the track leading up to the pastures. Follow this track across the pastures and a plantation, always following the red and white markings of the GR 10 or the yellow markings of the No. 65.
2 - At the next intersection, take the path on the right.
3 - At the edge of the forest, the track winds upwards and you will reach the Saunères hut (1,675 m). The view is already superb!
4 - Continue along the path above, marked GR10 or No. 65, towards the Pic de Bacanère (2,193 m).
5 - You will reach the ridge just above and continue along it until you reach a small pass. There you will see the Peyrehitte hut below (1940m).
6 - Return via the same route.
