Starting from Barbazan Lake, this hike will take you around the village. You will see some beautiful views and pass by some unique spots.
A strange hike! Starting and finishing at the glacial lake, which is rare at this altitude, you can also admire the unfinished chapel, which looks like something out of Harry Potter, and the pretty and quirky Art Deco refreshment bar in the thermal park.
- From the entrance to Barbazan Lake, continue along the road and take the tarmac path that climbs towards the houses.
- At the first crossroads, take a shaded path on the right. This joins a tarmac road, which you leave after 200 m to take another path on the right. Join the departmental road 33.
- Cross the departmental road and take the tarmac path opposite. Continue uphill to the village of Barbazan.
- At the crossroads, turn right and after about ten metres, turn left onto a narrow lane that climbs steeply.
- The tarmac road gives way to a stony track bordered by a wall. At the end of this property, take a tarmac road on your right which descends to the last houses. There, take a dirt track on the right at the edge of the meadow which leads to the end of a village street.
- Then take a path on the left that leads to the departmental road. Cross the road and follow the signs. You will pass an unfinished chapel and then descend towards the old Barbazan spa.
- Cross the spa park until you reach the road.
- Cross the road and take a path that climbs back up towards the centre of Barbazan. You will see the Virgin Mary on the Rock and can climb to the top to enjoy the view. Be careful, you must return to the lake by following the road.
