Description
Starting from St Pé d'Ardet, you will climb up to the Col des Ares pass and then reach the palombières (wood pigeon hunting hides) located above.
This unique hike will take you from one palombière to another between the Col des Ares and the Col du Hô. The return trip through the village of Antichan offers beautiful views of the surrounding valleys.

Detailed stages
- Park your vehicle in the car park on your right as you head towards the lake. There is an information board and a sign indicating the start of the Tour des Frontignes trail and the Chemin des Palombières.
- You will start your hike on the Chemin de l'Escarerous.
- Go up this path and continue straight ahead at the intersection (sign for Col des Ares).
- Continue climbing until you reach the Col des Ares road. Turn left, cross the road and immediately climb into the woods on the right (yellow markings).
- Follow the yellow markings and when you reach the ridge coming from the Col des Ares, turn right.
- When you reach a bump, turn right (yellow markings in place) - Leave the track that continues straight ahead.
- The climb continues steeply for a short while, then you arrive at the ridge where you will see the first palombières (hunting hides).
- Follow the ridge line to a new intersection, where you turn left (yellow markings).
- You will pass a small hut on the right.
- You will arrive at the highest point of your hike, Juan Malaut (1,014 m).
- Begin the descent and in a few minutes you will reach the Col du Hô.
- At the pass, take the path on the right with a sign for Antichan.
- Descend until you reach the Col des Ares road.
- Follow the road towards the village of Antichan.
- Turn right onto the path marked ""voie gallo romaine"" and follow it to the church, then continue straight ahead.
- Pass the castle and cross the village until you reach the Col des Ares road.
- Cross and continue straight ahead - pass a drinking trough and continue straight ahead on the path.
- You will rejoin the trail you started on. Turn left and return to your vehicle.
