Tripoint summit between Haute-Garonne, Ariège and Spain. It is also a splendid viewpoint.
The 360° panorama of a wild and unspoilt valley allows you to admire the surroundings. The Col d'Auéran marks the boundary between the departments of Ariège and Haute-Garonne (herds of sheep with patou dogs present).
1 - From Labach de Melles, the end of the road, follow the GR10. The climb is pleasant at first, steady and wooded.
2 - When you leave the forest, the path straightens out and takes you to the edge of the Uls plateau, leaving the hut of the same name (1,870 m) on your right. Cross the plateau following the GR10.
3 - Pass close to the left of the Uls lake and you will soon reach the ridge, arriving at the Pas du Bouc and then the Col d'Auéran (2,176m).On your left, you will see the Etang d'Araing and its guarded refuge, and in front of you, the north face of the Pic de Crabère (2,630 m) that you are about to climb
4 - Although steep, the path is not particularly difficult, and the view from the summit will quickly make you forget the climb.
5 - The return journey follows the same route.
