Through the Heath

Aragon, a medieval village sitting on a rocky outcrop, is designated a historic site which worth a visit. The walk takes you around this charming village, surrounded by typical Mediterranean landscapes: pine trees, scrubland, and vineyards. Aragon lies at the heart of the Cabardès wine region, which produces remarkable wines thanks to the unique blend of Atlantic and Mediterranean grape varieties. 

Trail Markings: Yellow
In exiting the parking lot, cross the bridge, take the path that climbs straight ahead, and pass by the old “Vignare” mill.
Then, head toward “Font de l’Orme.” Follow the main trail. There’s a beautiful view of the village of Aragon. After a few kilometers, you’ll face a magnificent panorama of the Aude Valley and the Pyrenees mountain range, stretching from Canigou to the Pic du Midi. The trail markers will lead you to the “Malportel” estate. 
There, turn right to follow the trail toward Fraisse-Cabardès. Cross the village following the yellow trail markers, cross two bridges, then further up, turn right. 
Follow a very pleasant, partially shaded trail for 1.9 km, with a beautiful view of the Cabardès, the Montagne Noire, and the “Capservy” Abbey. Watch out for changes in direction—be sure to pay close attention to the trail markers!
Turn right onto a trail for about 250 meters. Then, “inside” a left-hand curve, amid the vegetation, take a small path through the lush heath. Once you reach the village, cross it and return to the parking lot.
