Haute Borne plain trail- Accessible to persons with reduced mobility

Description

This trail lets you discover the diversity of the forest of Fontainebleau landscapes. Between beautiful high forests of beech and scots pine, but also expanses of sand and moors, you can discover the Béorlots sand dunes, and the Platière (sandstone plateau) des Couleuvreux.

Dunes des Béorlots: they are fossil sand dunes, formed by wind action in the Quaternary era. Without human intervention, these dunes would have become wooded again. Works are regularly undertaken to counter colonization by pine trees in order to conserve the open nature of this landscape, a favorite habitat of numerous floristic and faunistic species. It is for instance home to the Purseweb Spider (atypus affinis), and several species of butterflies and beetles.

Les Couleuvreux: they extend on 25 hectares of dry and wet moors, including “mares de platières” (sandstone plateau ponds) which are only refilled by rain water. This remarkable environment is crucial to the conservation of numerous species (birds, reptiles, dragonflies…) and requires a specific management. To this end, works are regularly undertaken: pine trees removal, ponds clean-up.
