Le sentier de la Gartempe

Isolée dans un vallon, près d'une bonne fontaine à dévotions, cette chapelle du XIX siècle voit se dérouler chaque année un pèlerinage en l'honneur de son saint patron, fin août.

Datant du XII siècle, ce pont, classé aux Monuments Historiques, franchit la Gartempe. Il est composé de quatre arches et de trois avant-becs. Les piles gallo-romaines dateraient du II siècle.

Située à proximité de l'église, sur la place publique (ancien cimetière), cette lanterne date du XII siècle. Elle possède un pilier creux en pierre, en haut duquel était placé au Moyen-Age, un fanal allumé (symbole de la vie éternelle) chargé de veiller sur le cimetière. Au sommet de cet édifice se trouve une jolie niche ajourée, surmontée d'une croix.

Située près de la lanterne des morts, cette vieille chapelle très pittoresque domine le cours de la Gartempe. S'y déroulait chaque année le pèlerinage des conscrits.

Cette église du XII siècle possède un clocher couvert en bardeaux de châtaignier, une nef unique et un chevet plat. Elle possède une partie fortifiée. Surélevés de plus de 2 m, ses murs, édifiés en grossiers moellons de blocage, sont percés de six baies de tir et de guet. Ces ouvertures assuraient un tir frontal en direction des toits avoisinants. Deux rangées de corbeaux formant mâchicoulis permettaient aussi des tirs fichants en direction du pied des parois.

L'Or des Simples is an organic peasant farm in the commune of Rancon, on the edge of the plateau overlooking the Gartempe river. It's also a botanical garden with over 300 aromatic and medicinal plants from the Limousin region, and a forest botanical trail open to sylvotherapy. All the aromatic and medicinal plants used in our products are hand-picked or harvested in this 30-hectare protected area, itself surrounded by pastures, fallow land and protective woods, as well as fruit from our orchards and honey from our apiaries. A "savours and discoveries" range, for a journey into the secrets of traditional herbalism, and a "well-being" range, because it's good to do yourself good, naturally. Everything is made on site, and everything on offer comes from our own land.

In the center of the village of Rancon, the bar-restaurant and rooms "Le Georges" offers a lunchtime menu and a menu of home-made burgers. Traditional dishes prepared using local produce wherever possible. House specialties include Limousin-style faux filet, English-style fish & chips and gourmet ice cream sundaes. For summer 2024, we will be introducing a seafood menu, depending on availability. Reservations recommended, atmosphere guaranteed!

Newly-renovated furnished apartment in a stone-built house sleeps 4 (2 adults + 2 to 4 children). It comprises a kitchen opening onto a living room with fireplace, a large bathroom and, upstairs, a second living room with sofa bed and a spacious bedroom with a 200x200 bed. The house opens onto a terrace with garden furniture and barbecue, and a large garden with children's play area (trampoline, tree house and swing), fire pit and wellness area (hottub and sauna). Bed linen provided.
