Le Pas du Roc / Sur le Poingt

Here's a little hike with all the makings of a big one! Without too much effort, get up high and enjoy an incredible panorama of the Maurienne valley in the company of the ibex that call this piece of rock home.

Pas du Roc seems to have been placed there by a mischievous giant who wanted to block the Maurienne valley.

Take the path that runs through this fold of mountain through which the river weaves its way. But what are these little concrete houses emerging here and there, half camouflaged between the rocks? They don't look like shepherd's huts...

In fact, they're the remains of the Maginot Line, built here during the Second World War. The military understood the importance of this rocky overhang from which to watch over the entire valley.

Under the benevolent gaze of the Fort du Télégraphe, which stands guard on the other bank, stop to contemplate the landscape that spreads out at your feet. See how Man has taken advantage of this very special geography: factories, waterworks, roads, railroads, bridges... a fine example of his genius as a builder!

Only the ibexes strolling along the grassy slopes remain indifferent to the spectacle.
