In the immediate vicinity of the Chapelle de l'Immaculée Conception, this shaded loop in the commune of Pontamafrey will enable you to quickly gain height and enjoy views of the Montvernier lacets and surrounding peaks, particularly from the belvedere of the Rocher aux Chamois. Warning: in places, the trail can be rough and stony.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
Departure point: Chapel parking lot.
1/ Turn left onto the D74 road which passes under the freeway bridge (road towards the Pontamafrey lake).
2/ After passing under the bridge, at the crossroads, take the road then the track on the left. The track runs alongside the freeway for about 800 m before climbing into the forest.
3/ Take the right-hand track, then turn immediately left. The path becomes progressively narrower, before entering the forest. You'll then begin the shady climb towards the chamois rock.
4/ Once you've reached the rocher aux chamois, you can move forward behind the sign to get a clear view of the valley (take care not to move too far forward: cliff).
To continue the loop, follow the path to the left of the sign.
5/ At the intersection, fork right to continue downhill.
6/ Go straight ahead at the crossroads to rejoin the D74 road. Take the road to the right to reach the Bois Ladonne sign, then continue under the bridge to return to the chapel parking lot.
