





A hike through the forest, dotted with picnic tables for rest stops and hidden chapels.
Its twenty-metre span, twelve-metre waist and unusual shape make it a very rare specimen. Five trunks grow from a single trunk base, intertwined with a rock. Those who come across this phenomenon in the heart of the national forest wonder which came first, the tree or the rock. If you put your hand in a hole in the trunk, you can feel the rock inside, a curiosity of nature!
The stream brings a welcome coolness in summer.
1 - Park your vehicle at Place des Évadés (526m) with the memorial to those who escaped from France to Spain. Walk down towards the village, then take the street slightly to the right.
2 - Follow the path in front of you to reach the Saint-Martin chapel (588m) and a few houses.
3 - At the next junction, Saint-Roch - 522m, turn right. The tree is signposted (1h10 and 2.8km). Take the gravel path that runs alongside a property.
4 - At the next intersection, ""Ougarrol"" (650m), follow the track on the left. You will see signs for the Chemin de la Liberté.
5 - Follow the track on the left; the tree is signposted (55 mins and 1.8 km).
6 - You arrive at a large shaded picnic area.
7 - Enter the forest of beech trees and mossy stones. The objective of this hike has been reached (797m - 1h20 ascent).
8 - The tree is on your left.
9 - Take the same route back to Pont des Mines. From there, 2 possibilities:
- Either return along the same path, turn right.
- Or return by road (20 mins) to the village of Marignac. Follow the road marked with signs for the Chemin de la liberté, leaving the forks leading off to the left. You will arrive at the Place des Évadés (526m).
