Keen mountain runners will adore this amazing loop. The difference in altitude is well spread, there are a few steep climbs to overcome but the highlight is definitely the final Layens ascent. The terrain is diverse and the landscapes are simply beautiful. An absolute must!
Set off from in front of the church towards the bridge. Follow the Chemin du Saillet towards the pitch. Cross the sports pitch and fork right after the pontoon. Scamper along the left bank of the Gave d'Aspe. Go back up to Lembeye Mill and ignore the right-hand piste. Go straight on at the crossroads and turn after the first house.
Start the descent to the west by following the ridge to the east. Continue the descent until you reach a flat then fork right. Head onto the fairly direct sloping track. After this grassy section in the karstic side turn left at the foot of the rocks. Cross the large valley and stay at the bottom of the knoll. Scamper along a hollow path among the junipers. Pick up the narrow ridge line then descend through a meadow to a thalweg.
Continue on the dirt path and go up the right-hand track when you get into Osse. Cross the road and follow a path 20m below. Go past the mill and towards Osse on the main road. Go between the houses at the washhouse and along the canal. Once you're back on the street go to the centre of Osse-en-Aspe.
